Since opening our doors in 2014, a primary goal of the Boys & Girls Club of Wooster has been to effectively serve as an academic resource to the children of Wooster. Housed in Edgewood Middle School, academics is literally be built into our infrastructure!
Every Monday through Thursday, Edgewood teachers assist students with homework after school. They have been an incredible resource for the Members of BGCW, as they strive to improve their grades, conceptual skills, and overall competences in grade level material. College of Wooster has also been a valuable resource to BGCW, as they provide much needed one on one support to several students after school.
When a comparison was run with regular attending Boys & Girls Club of Wooster Members verse Club Members who did not regularly attend in the 2014-2015 school year, BGCW members who attended on a regular basis had a higher GPA by almost two tenths. They also attended school, on average, 3 days more than those who did not attend regularly. As an organization, we are highly encouraged by these findings, and hope to continue to improve upon them.
